PERSONAL EVALUATION ON THE MAINLY MAKING TEXTILES COMPONENT OF THE SKE.

06/06/2016

We went over how to introduce children to thinking about 2D to 3D then 3D back to 2D. This was achieved by giving us a sweet potato in small groups of 3 and asking us to wrap it with no overlapping. This was useful as it made everyone really consider the connection between 2D and 3D forms.  It also made us contemplate how different techniques could be used to achieve this.

We also completed a skills knowledge audit for textiles (minimum competencies). I was comfortable with most of them eg. TD31. TM31 and TM39. However, the TK section (Textiles Knowledge) was not as strong for me due to a lack of knowledge on smart textiles and technical materials.

In the afternoon, we moved on to garment making. I really enjoyed this as we were thrown in at the deep end with being given the task of designing and creating a paper pattern for a waistcoat in pairs. I have some prior experience with pattern making and creating garments but the refresher was very helpful just to help me think of key points I may have forgotten about.

As first days go, I have really enjoyed myself and I have really enjoyed the fast pace of the day.

KEY WORDS LEARNT TODAY
